As a designer, I’m heavily inspired by the music and entertainment industry and nightlife culture as well as the sense of community that has emerged from it.  I’ve always believed in designing for what you enjoy, and that’s ultimately what this year has allowed me to do. Other themes I try to convey through my work are ones of nostalgia and the creation of memories, I would like for my work to act as a form of escapism to simpler times for those viewing it.

The physicality of my work is another aspect that has always fascinated me, the idea of how the public perceives and interacts with my designs is a factor that lives in the back of my mind through the entire design process.  This mindset has led to me creating a wide variety of physical outcomes, from vinyl records to magazines, flyers to cassette tapes.

I have enjoyed experimenting this year with various graphic styles through my Formula One poster project and branching into the world of film through my Aberdeen nightlife mock documentary.  These projects have given me the opportunity to try out new software before I leave Gray’s and gain a better understanding and appreciation into how much work goes into projects like these.

This year I was approached by an Aberdeen based nightclub to design promotional material for their events. This opportunity has given me the experience of working with live clients within the nightlife industry and taught me the importance of balancing project timelines and managing client expectations.
